Oklahoma Academic Standards in ELA for Kindergarten to 3rd Grade

The following documents provide versions of the ELA standards condensed to a single grade level (Kindergarten through 3rd Grade). The original draft (available by clicking here) contains an excellent view of the standards as they progress by grade level. There is absolutely a benefit to knowing the expectations for students prior to and after your grade level.

This document is meant to present the standards for ELA in an easy to read and focused format.

As always, your feedback is appreciated! For example, would similar documents be helpful for other grade levels?

UPDATE [8.16.13]: Thanks to the great feedback via the #ELAOK Facebook group, a Disclaimer was added to the opening page to clarify that the standards presented in each of the documents are the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts.

Oklahoma Academic Standards Checklists for ELA, Grades 6-12

Dear Fellow Teachers,

The grade 6-12 ELA Common Core State Standards checklists were created with a very special purpose in mind. We are teachers just as you are, and we are continually inundated with mountains of information to utilize in our field. Just like you, we become overwhelmed and sometimes intimidated by the amount and format of the information shared with us. That is why we were very adamant about creating a one-page form with the skills to be covered each year for CCSS by grade. We felt a one-page reference and checklist would simplify the process of looking up each standard, and we also liked the idea of putting each standard into teacher-friendly language.

While the checklists were specifically made for you and your planning purposes, feel free to adapt the form to use to follow the progress (pre and post-assessment) of each of your students. Photocopy and use the forms as much as you want and for whatever purpose you deem necessary. They were made for your convenience and peace of mind, no matter how you choose to utilize them.

The creators of these forms are: (1) Sarah Crichley, Sophomore English teacher at Southmoore High School in Moore, OK; (2) Rhonda Richardson, 9th-10th Language Arts teacher at Calera ISD in Calera, OK; (3) Dawn Patillo, Special Education English and Math at Chandler Junior High in Chandler, OK; (4) Ron Glenn, 8th-12th English teacher at Tyrone High School in Tyrone, OK; and (5) Sabrina Shirley, Sophomore English teacher at Locust Grove High School in Locust Grove, OK. We are excited about the Common Core State Standards, and we hope these tools help you to become more excited about it, too.

We also have included two additional documents: The Lesson Plan Template and The Special Education Access to CCSS to guide those of you who teach in the Special Education field. The documents were created to assist you in the shift to Common Core more easily by sharing a few ideas to start incorporating the standards in your classrooms. The lesson plan template is aligned with the new teacher evaluation system and can assist in proving components of the TLE or other teacher evaluation systems that might be employed. We appreciate and respect what you do. We hope that these resources will be beneficial to you in your classroom.

Happy Teaching,

  • Sarah Crichley
  • Rhonda Richardson
  • Dawn Patillo
  • Ron Glenn
  • Sabrina Shirley
